When a Puritan Sneezes

In medieval times (or sometime around then), it was believed that whenever a person sneezed, their soul would be expelled from their body or a demon would enter their body. To counter this belief, people would say "bless you"(or gesundheit) immediately after someone sneezed, believing that it would keep the soul within the body/expel the evil spirit.

Well, I came up with this at school one day. We were studying (well, they were studying. I was drawing) and somebody sneezed. Immediately the whole room erupted in BLESS YOUs. So I began to think to myself, "If people say "bless you" to that extent today (when we know for a fact that your soul doesn't leave your body when you sneeze) what did overly superstitious people back in the times of the Salem Witch Trials do? (which was back when all you had to do was hoot like a monkey and you were burned at the stake for witchcraft)."

So, I came up with this.
